ASCE Local Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Awards
Since 2000, the Seattle Section has presented awards for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievements for projects located within the 9-county Seattle Section (counties of King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island, Clallam, and Jefferson) and accomplished by a member of the Seattle Section.
Two Honor Awards and one Outstanding Award may be given in the following categories:
- Geotechnical
- Transportation and Development
- Water Resources
- Structures
- Ports and Waterways
- Small Project and Non-Construction Study
Judging is carried out by members from the respective Section technical committees. The Awards Night is held at the June Section meeting and each team receiving an award makes a short presentation describing the challenges they faced and the solutions which lead to successful implementation of their designs. In addition, winners:
- Receive plaques for the organization and owner
- Are featured in an article in the Daily Journal of Commerce
- Receive a personal letter of congratulations from a Washington U.S. Senator
- Are featured in a full page article in our monthly ASCE newsletter that reaches 2,400 civil engineers in the Puget Sound area
- Display the project at one of the a monthly Section meetings
- Display the project at the ASCE booth at the annual Engineers Fair
- Are nominated for an outstanding project in Region 8 which covers Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Hawaii. Winners of the Region 8 awards may be invited to present their projects at the Fall Region 8 meeting.
This has become a great opportunity to recognize ASCE members and celebrate the great work we are doing within the Seattle Section area in maintaining and enhancing the environment and infrastructure upon which our quality of life and safety depends.
